Delaney Walker’s 4th Birthday came with a surprise her family did not expect. Worried about all the water intake Delaney was taking in, her mom took her to the pediatrician. A simple blood test came back with the result of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Living with diabetes has been a challenge for Delaney for 16 years but going to college brought on a sense of independence in controlling her disease. This passion inside her to help others with T1D led to her Digital Engine project, The Sweet Life of DG, where she provide Type 1 insight to incoming freshmen in college.

Some of the hot topics she covered were:

We asked Delaney Grace to give us a review of the courseware. She went into the course a bit of a skeptic and not really that interested in digital marketing. But she left the course we a newfound love for all things digital, stating:

“Coming into this course, I was not expecting the world of social media marketing to be for me. I thought it would be all about how to gain Instagram followers, how to cultivate an aesthetic feed, and overall to be very superficial. However, I was completely wrong and am coming out of this class with a desire to explore job opportunities in this realm of marketing. Instead of learning about the social media platforms themselves, we focused more on strategy and how to move people through goal funnels on our website, simulating what it would be like to cultivate sales for a company. This foundational knowledge of social media is incredibly useful because it will work despite algorithm changes on the various social media platforms. I now feel confident on how to develop a brand, how to rebrand, how to develop social media strategy, and how to create a full social media campaign without using paid ads. In addition to these valuable marketing skills, I can walk away with technical skills such as how to create an editorial calendar, how to run the backend of a website, how to schedule social media posts, and how to use Google analytics. Even for people not intending to do social media as a career, this class equips you with valuable foundational and technical knowledge that is useful for any industry.”

We couldn’t be prouder of the results of Delaney’s project on Type 1 insight. She had a unique subject that was insightful for anyone, whether you have T1D or not. The way she wrote her material drew in her followers quickly and easily. After completing the course, she went on to be a Digital Marketing Intern. Graduating Summa Cum Laude and receiving the 2021 Student of the year award in the Jack C. Massey College of Business, Delaney has moved on to become a Content Marketing Coordinator for BluWave, LP in Nashville, TN. When she started The Digital Engine she thought digital marketing wasn’t for her, but look at her now. We are so proud of you Delaney!
