Lauren Hackett, a Belmont University graduate and winner of the Jack C. Massey College’s Top Marketing Student Award, used The Digital Engine to build her own mental health blog titled Your Story is Unfinished for her semester project. In her first blog, she blazes the door open about how it’s okay to talk about mental illness. We loved her quote about therapy: “your friend should never be your therapist, and neither should your mom or dad or grandma. And frankly, they can’t be. The awesome thing about therapists is that they are impartial; their opinions are entirely objective and supposed to be based solely on their understanding of the human brain and psychology. Your mom may be awesome, but there is absolutely no way that she can be impartial.” We really wish we could dive into more Lauren wrote about in this post because she is a brilliant writer with excellent insight and wisdom about mental health. We encourage you to take the time to check out her blog. Here are some of the topics she covered during her semester in The Digital Engine:

One of her most raw and honest posts was Faith While Fighting Mental Illness. After getting Covid in 2020, Lauren spent the next 11 months trying to fully recover. The long and hard Covid recovery caused a great cloud of depression over her life until she was well again. In her blog post, she was open about her struggles with her faith during that time and how her relationship with God was challenged. But, at the same time, He was still her rock. She admits that God gave her more than she could handle, but hindsight, He was handling it all for her. He carried her through the storm. It wasn’t without suffering, but through the suffering she found a silver lining. Yes, on the other side of that storm, she writes that her relationship with Him is now stronger.

Since Lauren had advanced knowledge in the digital marketing space, she came into the course a bit skeptical that The Digital Engine could provide her any new tools or talents. She wrote:

“The Digital Engine provided an incredible crash course into digital marketing. From building a website to email campaigns, the Digital Engine provided step-by-step tutorials complete with in-depth discussion of the power of social media. As someone who already works in digital marketing, I was skeptical of the offerings, but The Digital Engine far surpassed my hopes for the course and gave me incredible knowledge into building an online brand. I was hopeful that this class would help determine my decision of whether to enter the digital marketing industry after graduation. This course equipped me with so much knowledge over just 15 weeks that I felt so confident going into the industry post-graduation. With the knowledge that I have gained from this course I am now running a boutique digital marketing company along with a charitable-based brand built fully on social media. This course not only gave me tools to use, but also an appreciation for the work that goes into building an online brand and developing a loyal customer base.”

In addition to the blog, the course requires students to have at least 3 social sites. Be sure to check Lauren’s out:
