Coleman Alford worked efficiently and effectively to build creative content to earn his DE Certification this semester. For as long as Coleman can remember, he has loved film, especially in the theater. To him, there is no better feeling than the excitement and emotional response he feels when watching a film in the theater, thriving off “the communal sense of discovery and enjoyment that is characteristic of the theater environment.” To stay in tune with all that is going on in the film industry, Coleman likes to listen to podcasts about Hollywood history and watch YouTube videos about the industry. While studying at Belmont University, he has worked as an employee of a local movie theater and worked in both the production and distribution of film. And just recently, landed an internship at an independent film company located in Los Angeles.
For his semester project, the course requires that the students have a website and blog established as their hub for lead generation. Coleman creatively came up with a blog about movie “flops” called “Flops Now Streaming.” He took his time and wrote illuminating content on his beloved industry, such as:
- How I See the Industry Evolving
- What Role Do the Oscar’s Play Today?
- Representation Spotlight: Women in Film
- Why Representation Matters
In line with the course instructions, Coleman build out three social media channels to direct traffic back to his site. You may follow his posts on:
Regarding the coursework, Coleman did not sugarcoat the amount of work the project took, but found appreciation in digging-in on his own in conjunction with the support he received from The Digital Engine courseware in building creative content. About the curriculum, Coleman wrote:
“I feel this courseware was helpful as somewhat of a trial by fire. [It] did a great job of not only sharing the history of social media marketing but give valuable examples for specific instances of things we learned to use. Especially when planning editorial calendars, the text is helpful to teach about the engagement cycle and how every post pushes forward your brand message. The text is also good because [it] introduce many small ideas that build to develop the greater idea of social media marketing. Although it can be strenuous at times the practicum was a valuable experience to truly engage in all facets of social media marketing. From content creation and distribution to curation and collaboration, inbound marketing requires you to creatively push yourself to success. You feel great pride for every user that engages with your website content and completes your online forms. This course is a great tool to reference to find new ways to further your success. Overall, the digital engine has been a very useful course during this semester.”
