Next, in Level 4, Lauren used our proprietary process to convert her content matrix into a 45-day rolling editorial calendar. Using our step-by-step instructions, Lauren created this calendar in Excel to plan out the first six weeks of her campaign before it was ever launched. This greatly assists in keeping you consistent and timely with both created and curated content. An incredibly important part of the pre-launch process, the rolling editorial calendar prepares you for the time-intensive nature of inbound marketing. Many decisions must be made weeks in advance on the timing of content releases, not to mention creating or curating the content before release. Though seemingly benign, the editorial calendar is the crucial and most important asset that you will create to measure success in an inbound marketing campaign. The number one rule is: You MUST stay consistent and on-time with your editorial calendar if you want to see exponential returns with your campaign. Below is how Lauren’s first editorial calendar turned out. (Note: Once again, this a partial screenshot. The full editorial calendar includes two additional social media channels and their daily posting plans.)
